Fees
Studying in the UK is great value for money. Degree courses are generally shorter than in the USA and Australia, making them more affordable.
Your costs while living in the UK will depend on the type of course you follow. If you are studying a career based course, degree course or postgraduate programme, you will need to budget for accommodation and meals in addition to the course fees.
European Union students attending UK universities pay the same fees as UK students. International students from countries outside the EU pay overseas fees, which are outlined below.
English language courses
Fees for these courses vary greatly. You can expect to pay around £100 per week for classes in a group of around eight to twelve people, and up to £300 per week for more specialised or intensive small-group tuition. Academic English study courses may cost £100 to £200 per week.
Career based courses
The average cost of career based and professional courses is typically £4000 to £5000 a year.
Degree courses
Your main costs will be tuition fees and living expenses. Universities set their own fees. Some rough examples of tuition costs per year are:
- Arts £6000 to £8000
- Science £7000 to £9500
- Clinical £8000 to £18,000
Average living costs (covering accommodation, food, clothing, entertainment, books and daily travel) for an international student studying a degree course will be £730 per month in London or £585 per month elsewhere.
You may wish to know that those students registered for a course in access of six months, have permission to work. Therefore, you may be able to cover most of your living costs if you work.
